England’s midfielder Ruben Loftus Cheek could make his way back to Crystal Palace on a season-long loan from Chelsea in the upcoming season. The midfielder had spent the last season at Selhurst Park in which he helped his side in avoiding relegation and they seem to be keen on having him again at their disposal.
The 22-year-old recently made his full World Cup debut for England in a thumping win against Panama. His performance surely wouldn’t have gone unnoticed and there are quite a few clubs who want to have the services of this Chelsea midfielder. Recently, he gave a warning to Chelsea and clearly mentioned that he is not going to sit on the bench for them and the Blues certainly cannot let their star midfielder slip away when he is close to hitting his prime.
The midfielder was a crucial player for Roy Hodgson last season as Palace went on to secure their Premier League status comfortably, after a dismal beginning to the season where they were pointless in the first seven encounters. After a good outing like that, clubs like Newcastle United and Everton are after the youngster’s signature, however, Palace might think that they have an upper hand as he has already spent a season on loan with them.
The Blues product has failed to break into the first team for past few seasons at Stamford Bridge and that has left him quite frustrated. However, one feels that he might be ready for regular first team action in the upcoming season as Chelsea lack good options in midfield apart from Ngolo Kante. Cesc Fabregas and Tiémoué Bakayoko had a below-par season and maybe now is the time Chelsea to integrate the 22-year old into the senior squad.
The English midfielder made his senior team debut for Chelsea in 2014 but has since represented them 32 times and most of those appearances have been from the bench. Last season at Palace alone he made 25 appearances in all competitions and was quite effective for them in the middle of the park.
Loftus Cheek has a good technical ability on the ball and is adept in finding his team-mate with deft touches and passes. If he adds more of a goal threat to his game, he will become a more complete midfielder. Last season he flourished under Roy Hodgson as he got regular game time and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will let him go on loan for yet another season, now that he looks ready for first team action at Stamford Bridge.
