Crystal Palace are interested in securing the signature of Liverpool striker Danny Ings this summer. According to recent reports, the Eagles are leading the chase to sign the Reds forward and could make a move for him during the summer transfer window. However, they will face stiff competition from Burnley and Southampton in pursuit of the Winchester-born player.
Some sources have recently claimed that the Merseyside club are prepared to let their prized asset leave in this post-season which could spark a transfer scramble between other English clubs. Ings’ career at Anfield has been plagued with injuries since his move on a free transfer from Burnley in the summer of 2015.
However, it is believed that the Reds are unwilling to let go of Ings but the Merseyside club understands that the player would want to move on in search of more first-team opportunities. He is exactly the kind of player who will add more firepower to Hodgson’s frontline at Selhurst Park so the London club should do everything in their power to snap him up this summer.
According to the United Kingdom bookmakers, the trio of Palace, Burnley and Southampton are all priced at 7/2 to sign the forward during this ongoing window. The 25-year-old had made 23 appearances for the Reds last season, scoring 2 goals while providing 2 assists in all competitions.
Hodgson’s Eagles had a tough and gruelling league campaign last term but still managed to attain a healthy 11th place finish in the English top-flight. However, Palace needs to bring in some fresh faces to their squad if they are to avoid being dragged into the relegation dogfight next year.
The potential acquisition of Ings will undoubtedly bolster Hodgson’s attacking options at Selhurst Park. The London club has a whole host of talented forwards such as Wilfried Zaha, Christian Benteke, Alexander Sørloth, Bakary Sako and Connor Wickham competing for a place in the Eagles starting XI. The addition of Ings will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within Hodgson’s squad.
