Chelsea’s transfer window has been frustrating for the fans. They are yet to replace Antonio Conte as they have planned and are unable to make inroads in signing potential transfer targets. One such player they seem to be missing out on is Daniele Rugani.
The Italian defender has been on Conte’s radar for a while now and Chelsea want to sign him irrespective of the future of the former Juventus boss. But the 23-year old is no closer to an exit from Turin, claims his agent.
David Torchia has revealed that there are no talks with any clubs over a move for Rugani and that he is expected to stay put in Italy for another season. So how can Chelsea replace him? Here are three alternatives for the Blues:
Jamaal Lascelles (Newcastle United):
Tried and trusted by Rafa Benitez, a former Chelsea boss, English ace Lascelles was one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League last season. He is still 24 but is already the skipper for the Magpies and is regarded as the future of English football. He is not too far away from joining a top club and has been linked with a move to clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. He is a match winner on his day and has the potential to be a first-team star for the Blues, for years to come.
Clement Lenglet (Sevilla):
The French U21 international has earned himself a reputation of being one of the best defenders in Serie A at the moment. Having impressed in the two outings against Manchester United in the Champions League last season, Lenglet, who has been on Barcelona’s radar, is also wanted by Manchester United while Chelsea were also credited with an interest. At just 22, he has a bright future ahead of him and fits the requirement at Stamford Bridge. He is valued at £31m and will be an absolute steal for the Blues.

Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham Hotspur):
Though not a long-term option like others on this list, Alderweireld is probably one of the best defenders in England at the moment. He is an established defender and is a crucial factor for Belgium’s chances in the World Cup but is currently unsettled in London. His contract with Tottenham Hotspur runs down at the end of the next season and he is yet to pen a new deal. He is up for grabs this summer with a price tag of £50m and if Chelsea have no other option, spending big on the former Atletico Madrid man makes a lot of sense.
