Chelsea are lining up a move for Olympique Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson this summer. According to recent reports, the Blues are preparing to make an offer for the French midfield general during this summer transfer period. It is understood that the West London club are looking to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the new campaign and Sanson fits the bill perfectly.
The French midfielder signed for Marseille from Montpellier in the winter transfer window of 2017 and has gone on to be a major success in the top tier of French football. Some sources have recently claimed that the West London giants are monitoring his development at Orange Vélodrome. The 23-year-old Ligue 1 star has put in a number of outstanding performances during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. However, Chelsea are not the only ones looking to sign him with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both keeping tabs on his situation at the French club.
Sanson had made 53 appearances for the Ligue 1 team last season, scoring 12 goals while creating 3 assists across all competitions. He could prove to be a shrewd signing for the Blues if they can pull off such a deal this summer.
Antonio Conte’s side had a trophyless campaign and also missed out on UEFA Champions League football after only managing to achieve a 5th placed finish in the English top tier. They are in dire need to revamp their squad in this transfer window so that the club is in with a good chance of bagging some top honours in the upcoming season.
The addition of Sanson will undoubtedly bolster Chelsea’s midfield options ahead of the new campaign. The Blues of London have midfield talents such as Cesc Fabregas, Danny Drinkwater, N’Golo Kante, Ross Barkley and Tiémoué Bakayoko competing for a midfield berth at Stamford Bridge. The potential acquisition of Sanson will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Chelsea squad.

At 23, the Ligue 1 playmaker still has his peak years ahead of him which the West Londoners could look to capitalise on in the coming years. He is also quite versatile and can play both in an attacking midfield role or as a defensive midfielder, which makes him a perfect fit for the Blues. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Sanson and whether he ends up sealing a move to the Premier League this summer.
