Though the FA Cup trophy late last season has given the Chelsea fans something to cheer about, it might not be enough for Italian manager Antonio Conte to keep his job at the club for another season. The former Italian national team coach is expected to be replaced by fellow Italian Maurizio Sarri before the start of the new season.
And the Napoli manager is already making plans for his time in England. He will be desperate to improve on the options in the squad at Stamford Bridge at the moment and one player he wants to take with him to London is Elseid Hysaj.
Born and brought up in Shkoder, Albania, the 24-year old started his senior career in Italy with Empoli and after four impressive seasons in Florence, he was snapped up by Italian giants Napoli, back in 2015. He made 37 Serie A appearances in his first season at the club, taking no time to establish himself in the first team.
He made 35 appearances each in the last two seasons, standing as one of the most consistent full-backs in Italy at the moment. Predominantly a right-back, Hysaj can also put in a shift on the other flank and is an exciting presence at both ends of the field.
He is strong in the air and in hold up play, is accurate with his passing and is usually involved in buildup play. He is not the greatest crosser but is more than adept at creating chances in the final third but his biggest asset is his ability to bully even the best of the wingers in the game.
He loves to dominate his flank, rarely leaves space behind him and with over 200 Serie A appearances and 37 international appearances, is an established star at the highest level.
And reports now claim that if Chelsea are able to land Sarri this summer, they are almost certain to sign Hysaj. The story suggests that Napoli fear for the future of a number of stars, who could be tempted to move to Chelsea along with Sarri. So is Hysaj a signing Chelsea should be excited about?
Having used Victor Moses as a wing-back last season, Chelsea have Cesar Azpilicueta and Davide Zappacosta as the other players who can play in that role. But Hysaj is a natural full-back and having worked with Sarri for over two years now, could be his first choice next season.
