Maurizio Sarri continues to dictate terms for Chelsea as he prepares to take charge of the Premier League giants for the upcoming season. The Italian boss wants the Blues to sign his former target as Napoli head coach, Aleksandr Golovin.
Chelsea have still no done away with Antonio Conte’s release clause, who currently has a £9m-a-year contract. Sarri is working on the pretence that Roman Abramovich will get everything sorted out before the start of the 2018/19 campaign.
That would mean for the Russian owner to get the right players while the summer transfer window is still on. Abramovich has seen what his compatriot can do with the ball under his feet. Golovin has been one of the rising stars in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and is already being linked with a number of elite European clubs.
Still only 22, the CSKA Moscow attacking midfield has a calm demeanour about him. He has showcased his attacking and creative abilities for his country.
The Kaltan-born player has already scored through a stunning free kick in the group stages and also set up 2 more assists to help his country to the knockout stages. He has the technical abilities to break open defences and could almost be a perfect fit at Chelsea.
Other than Ross Barkley, the Blues do not really have a player who can play behind the striker. Willian has been converted to more of a wing option and Eden Hazard is always better suited to the left flank. Cesc Fabregas, who is 31 now, does not have the legs to dribble out of tight spots or to really be impactful other than the deep midfield positions.
Barkley signed from Everton last January but has not been able to break into the starting lineup mostly due to injury. He is a bright young spark who will have to prove his worth to Sarri.
Golovin could be the missing piece to tie the entire attack together. Chelsea finished in the 5th spot of the Premier League, hence missing out on Champions League football in the next season and seriously questioning the abilities of Antonio Conte.

The team does need to restrengthen for the upcoming campaign and at £22m, Golovin could be a steal in the present market. He has the years in front of him to develop into a star figure in the Premier League and the Chelsea ranks.
