After a good season with Hibernian FC, John McGinn has been linked with a host of clubs as the transfer window approached and as expected the rumours of him leaving his current club is hot. Celtic who have once again dominated Scottish football, have been vying for the midfielder’s signature. Apart from them, clubs from the English Championship have also been monitoring the 24-year-old.
Recently the central midfielder is in Peru playing friendlies for his nation and when asked about his future he seemed confident that he will stay at Easter Road. He said,” I am glad to be on the other side of the world if I am honest, It’s been great. I am aware of what’s going on and what’s being said, I wake up each morning to different speculation each day. But that’s something I cannot control.”
The midfielder has been a crucial part of the Hibs eleven as he has controlled the game from the middle of the park. He managed six goals and eight assists for his team but most importantly he kept his team ticking in midfield and kept thwarting away opponent attacks as well. He would have certainly been a good signing for Brendan Rodgers as someone like Scott Brown is already 32 and wouldn’t be able to last long at the top level.
However, after recent comments from McGinn, it seems evident that Celtic will find it tough to have him at their club and we look at 3 possible replacements they can go after if they miss out on signing the Scottish international.
Joe Allen
The Stoke City midfielder could reunite with his former manager at Celtic Park. The Welsh veteran has been impressive in the Premier League and will certainly be a good fit for Rodgers. Rodgers has managed him at Swansea City and Liverpool before so one might think that the Celtic manager has an edge over other clubs.
Marko Grujic
The Liverpool midfielder has found it tough to get any sort of game time at the Merseyside club. With the signings of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Fabinho in the last two transfer windows, it is clear that the Serbian midfielder doesn’t have a future at Liverpool. Rodgers can bring him under his wings and he has all the potential to flourish in the Scottish Premiership.
Joe Ralls
The Cardiff City midfielder can be another good choice for Rodgers as he played a crucial part in Bluebirds promotion to English top flight. The midfielder managed 40 appearances in all competitions and managed 7 goals and 5 assists and usually played in the central midfielder role.
