Celtic have been linked with former Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan who was recently released by the club. Brendan Rodgers has a chance to reunite with his former player who played an important role where the Reds came perilously close to winning the Premier League. Flanagan was touted to be a future Liverpool star and he made a special place in the Reds fans’ hearts in a short while as he was an academy product and a boyhood Liverpool fan. However, some issues off the field have tainted his image as he was charged with an assault case where he was proven guilty of beating his girlfriend.
Those off-field problems seem to have taken a toll on the 25-year-old’s game as well as he has never been able to show the spark and brilliance when he burst onto the scene initially. Flanagan is a hard tackling right back and in his first season he went on to become a fan favourite as he was never afraid of going into challenges and taking on opponents. He is not that imposing on the field as he has a small built but his dogged determination on the football pitch makes a huge difference.
The Hoops have had another brilliant season where they took away all the honours in Scottish football and it will really take something special by their opponents to stop their juggernaut next season as well. Rodgers has made this team into a well-oiled machine and they look head and shoulders above everyone at the moment.
However, Rangers are not sitting tight as they have appointed Steven Gerrard as their manager and the former Liverpool legend has already made some good acquisitions in the transfer market and according to reports, they are also in contention to sign Flanagan.
It remains to be seen which way Flanagan chooses as at one side he has his former manager and at the other, his former captain.

Mikael Lustig has been the first choice option for Rodgers at the right back spot and the Swede will be entering the final year of his contract. It remains to be seen whether they will further the contract of the defender or will look into the transfer market to bring a new right back. Flanagan can be an able option to have as he has a decent amount of Premier League experience and maybe playing under Brendan Rodgers might just bring out the best in him once again.
