Latest reports claim that Leigh Griffiths is close to agreeing on a new long-term contract with Celtic following the arrival of Odsonne Edouard from Paris Saint-Germain. The Hoops smashed their own club record to bring the 20-year-old forward to Celtic Park on a permanent basis and now would like to make Griffiths a lifetime Celtic player.
When asked about his negotiations with the Scottish champions, Griffiths said, “We are inching further forward on that. It’s getting closer and there’s not far to go. We are about 85 per cent done now. There’s just a couple of tweaks needed and then it will be done.”
“I see my best years at Celtic. I’d like to get to 100 goals. If I don’t get to that mark next season then I may as well quit football. I need two goals but it feels like I’ve not had the chance to get there but this season that lies ahead I’m sure I will get there.”
The striker is not fazed by the arrival of Edouard to the side and is ready to fight for his place under Brendan Rodgers. The Bhoys manager has worked remarkably well at rotating around Moussa Dembele, Edouard and Griffiths in the club’s lineup this past season.
The latter featured in 39 games for the Glasgow-based outfit and came away with 13 goals and 8 assists. Dembele still holds the starting berth under Rodgers but is being linked with a move away from the side.
The Frenchman will fetch Celtic a lot of cash which will not only cover the cost for Edouard but will also have enough left over to make improvements to the club’s starting XI. That will also leave Griffiths and Edouard with the open shot at the number nine position.
Celtic have just registered their second consecutive domestic treble and ideally would like to continue dominating the Scottish top-flight. Rodgers is planning to make improvements to the squad in hopes of making a strong run in the European stage next term.
Griffiths is one of the club’s oldest players and 183 appearances and 98 goals under his belt. The 27-year-old already has a contract set to run till the summer of 2021 but would like to extend it further.

The Bhoys just recently have signed Tom Rogic and Kieran Tierney to long-term deals. Tying down a player like Griffiths will give the player the piece of mind to perform at his very best in the coming years.
