Reports are arising of a certain Premier League interest over Kilmarnock midfielder, Youssouf Mulumbu. The specific clubs cannot be named for certain but the 31-year-old looks optimistic of a move back to England after the completion of his contract with Steve Clarke’s side.
Celtic, however, might take a punt on the midfielder and maybe Brendan Rodgers should be quick to make a move while the pen is still dry. No harm in making an official approach since the player is looking for a new contract.
Mulumbu could be one of the squad options capable of replacing Stuart Armstrong, who might be on the move this summer, in the Celtic squad. During his short stay at East Ayrshire, the DR Congo international managed to settle into his creative boots.
He reunited with his former boss and played a crucial role in the late stages of Killie’s 2017/18 campaign. He set up 4 assists in 20 games and even scored the winner against Celtic in the 1-0 league match at Rugby Park in February.
Norwich City decided to release the player in November and currently might just be regretting their decision to do so. Mulumbu was not at his prolific best for the Canaries but has proven his doubters wrong with his exploits in the Scottish Premiership.
In relation to trade rumours surrounding Mulumbu, Clarke came out and said, “I wouldn’t say I was overconfident of keeping Youssouf. He came up here to put himself back in the shop window and I think he’s done that with his performances.”
“That’s been great for Youssouf and it’s been great for Kilmarnock. I said to the supporters that they just had to enjoy him while he was here. And I imagine a bigger club will come in for Youssouf in the summer as he’s a free transfer. If that happens, we wish him well.”
Mulumbu was born in Kinshasa, Zaire but later moved to France in 2004 to sign with Paris Saint-Germain. He made 50 league appearances for the club’s B side but only a handful for the first team.
The 5 feet 10-inch man subsequently got traded off to West Bromwich Albion in summer of 2009 after a successful loan spell. Mulumbu went on to make over 200 appearances for the Baggies and 24 in total for Norwich City.

He has the talent and the experience to carve out a spot in Brendan Rodgers’ side if Armstrong quits the Glasgow-based outfit this summer.
