After four long years, Cardiff City will be hosting the cream of England every weekend as Neil Warnock’s magic saw them jump to the Premier League last season. The Bluebirds have played just one Premier League campaign, that came in the 2012-13 season, but that ended in relegation, giving forgettable memories to the fans.
Warnock, however, has accumulated a decent squad this time around and could fight with the big guns next season. They will need to add some quality to their first team this summer if they are to consistently challenge top flight teams and this has seen them linked with a number of stars from around Europe.
One such player Warnock is now looking to sign is Josh Windass.
Born and brought up in Hull, the 24-year-old was once at the academy at Huddersfield Town but started his senior career with Accrington Stanley, where he spent three years, gaining valuable experience at a young age. He was picked up by Scottish giants Rangers, on a free transfer in 2016 and Windass has ever since been a regular in the first team.
He scored 13 goals in 31 starts in the Premiership and was one of the best players for the club last season. His international career is yet to kick off but he has shown great promise for The Gers and could be a huge coup for Cardiff City.
An attacking midfielder with great speed and close control, Windass is a confident and technically gifted player, who can be a serious goal-scoring threat from just outside the box. At just 24, he has already made an impact at the highest stage for Rangers and is definitely a player that will improve Warnock’s squad.
Reports suggest that Cardiff City are determined to land him and have already made an official bid of £1.5m. Windass joined the Scottish giants on a free transfer, but it is understood that they value him at £3m. The Gers do not really have to sell and the promotion to the top flight in England will have made Cardiff City’s pockets heavier, meaning Rangers will hold out at that fee.

Warnock has already added a winger to his side in Josh Muphy and a defender in Greg Cunningham. He has also offered new deals to the likes of Brian Murphy, Junior Hoilett and Aron Gunnarsson, as he looks to maintain the core of the side. But additions like Windass will go a long way in helping them reach safety next season.
