With no trophy to show for in over five years now, Liverpool are no longer the European giants they once were. Their appearance in Kyiv last month will give them some hope as they turn into an attractive proposition for many players in Europe. But they have struggled to keep hold of their stars in the last few transfer windows, losing talismans like Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho.
So it does not come as a surprise that the fans are worried about the future of the players that took them to the Champions League final in Ukraine and one such player, who is now linked with an exit is Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian international picked up a bizarre injury in the UCL final but is set to play for Egypt in the World Cup in Russia. He picked up 44 goals and 16 assists in all competitions last season, winning the Golden Boot in England. He has turned into the most inform winger in Europe going into the next season and is the talisman of the current Liverpool side.
However, like in every transfer windows, rumours claim that Salah’s representatives had a discussion with Catalan giants Barcelona, who are ready to meet his valuation, seemingly missing out on the signature of Antoine Griezmann. Though these claims were later squashed by Salah’s agent, there might be some truth to the story, that will frustrate Liverpool fans. So can they afford to lose him?
Having joined the club just last summer, Salah has already become a Kop hero, with young and the old looking joyous chanting his name on the terraces. He has become an instant hit with the fans, scoring goals and breaking club records for fun. His speed and close control in and around the box has made Klopp’s Gegenpressing system all the more effective.
He may not be the one pressing high up the field to win the ball but he has already turned into the target man, that Liverpool look for to unlock defences. The Reds had a problem of outscoring teams that sit back and defend, a problem hardly visible when Salah is on the field.
He has not only solved problems the club has previously been under but has also made them one of the most exciting teams to watch in the game. A part of the accolades should go to his teammates who play to his strengths while another part goes to the manager.

So losing him at this time will not only make them weaker, sending them into the transfer market in a flurry, albeit with heavy pockets. It will also give out a wrong message to potential stars who would want to move to Anfield. Liverpool need to erase the tag of a selling club that they have picked up recently and ignoring all offers for star players like Salah is just a step in the right direction.
