Having decided to replace Arsene Wenger this summer, the Gunners have now turned into one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market. Unai Emery, the new boss will look to assert his dominance on the squad and has been linked with a range of superstars from all around Europe.
They are close to completing deals for a couple of players, having already announced one in Stephan Lichtsteiner. And the latest name they are set to land is Caglar Soyuncu.
A player that impressed Sven Mislintat in his time in Germany, Soyuncu has only gone on to establish himself as a confident defender and Arsenal’s need of a CB has seen Mislintat show interest in getting Soyuncu to Emirates.
Born and brought up in Izmir, Turkey, the 22-year old started his senior career with Altinordu, where he spent a couple of decent years, before earning a move to SC Freiburg. He turned into an instant star at the club, making 24 appearances in his first season and 26 in the last. He also has 15 appearances for the Turkish national side and at just 22, is now regarded as one of the finest young defenders on display in Europe.
Known for his ability to dribble out of dangerous situations, Soyuncu is a decent ball playing defender with great confidence in his abilities. He is strong in the air and is positionally astute but what makes him dangerous is the ability to read the game in front of him and make interceptions in crucial times.
He is pro-active and though at times gives away needless free-kicks, has the ability to soak up pressure against even the best sides. He has also shown decent leadership abilities to marshal his backline and at his age, he is definitely a star for the future.
Arsenal have Rob Holding and Konstantinos Mavropanos playing under-study roles at Emirates but Soyuncu is a more established star and could play a role in the first team. Arsenal need to cover for Laurent Koscielny’s injury early next season and the Turkish youngster is a decent bet.

Altinordu president Mehmet Ozkan has now revealed that Soyuncu is close to joining Arsenal this summer. Speaking to the media, he said,
Caglar Soyuncu is set to join Arsenal,” he said.
“Of course we would make a cut from the transfer if he joins Arsenal,” he added.
He will join a list of players that are set to change Arsenal’s approach next season. But do you think he is the right man for the Gunners?
