Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United star Jamaal Lascelles. The 24-year-old English defender has had an excellent season at the St. James’ Park and that has led to the player being pursued by multiple top tier English clubs. With the player being shown interest by the big boys of England, he could well be on the move. If Lascelles does end up leaving the club, here are three replacements they can bring in to the club.
Ashley Williams
The Everton man can be a strong target. He is a former Swansea City player and was held in great esteem at the club back in his day at Wales. However, he has been unable to settle in Merseyside and the fans have turned against him. He can seek a move to Newcastle and maybe help the Magpies before retirement.
The player has massive experience of playing in the top two divisions of the English league. He was an excellent reader of the game at Swansea and is a natural leader. At this age, he can probably help the young defenders at St. James Park solidify the backline.
Robert Huth
The defender was a part of the Leicester City league winning team in the 2015-16 season. Along with Wes Morgan, Huth made some brilliant tackles and interceptions at the back. However, he has seen his spot replaced by new defenders like Harry Maguire since and is no longer a first team player at the club. He has fallen way down the pecking order and it may be a good time for him to move to another league. He can be a good option for Newcastle as he would bring in experience and strength at the back.
He has a strong physical presence and is a no-nonsense defender. The player is an excellent tackler and does not shy away from a physical battle. Having someone like him at the back will definitely improve the confidence and the quality of the Newcastle backline.
Kyle Bartley
The 26-year-old player was out on loan at Leeds United last season. He was impressive for them and made 45 appearances in the Championship.
However, Leeds did not offer to extend his deal and he came back to Swansea for this season. He has been unable to make an impression at the Welsh club having only made 4 appearances all season. However, his season has also been hampered by his ligament injury in his knee which saw him ruled out from August to January.
