Rangers’ return to Premiership football did no harm to great rivals Celtic who maintained their dominance and humiliated the Light Blues time and again whenever they locked horns in Old Firm derbies. Not only did the Gers fail to dethrone the champions but also failed to clinch a runners-up place from Aberdeen in past two seasons. Managerial alterations did not work out at Ibrox but the appointment of Steven Gerrard, the iconic former Liverpool and England midfielder, has rejuvenated the dejected fans who are going through the darkest days of club’s history.
Gerrard, although does not have any prior managerial experience at a senior level, his impressive stint as the Liverpool U18s boss guided him to grab such a prestigious offer from one of football’s most historic club with heritage and respect in European circuit. His reputation allowed the Gers to conclude multiple new inclusions without much difficulty as the players expressed their delight to be a part of Gerrard’s Rangers revolution.
The Liverpool legend is also keen on downsizing his squad by trimming down fringe players, therefore, welcoming bids for them in order raise fund and invest in other areas.
Eduardo Herrera, one of many flop signings made by Pedro Caixinha last summer, is the one who is stalling on Ibrox exit despite multiple offers from his homeland Mexico. The 29-year-old centre-forward failed miserably as he netted only one league goal and eventually lost his place after Caixinha’s exit.
Toluca alongside his former employers Pumas are among a host of Mexican outfits who want him back but the player is rejecting those offers in order to stay in Europe and wait for his preferred move despite being shown the door.
Alfredo Morelos is set to remain as their key striking option, but the arrival of AS Roma youngster Umar Sadiq is also on the cards whereas the contract renewal of academy prodigy Ryan Hardie implies there is no future for Herrera in Glasgow under Steven Gerrard.

The player still has a couple of years left in his current deal to run out at Ibrox, therefore, a contract termination will lead to a financial loss and the club, hence, have no option but to wait patiently for Herrera’s decision. There has not been any indication of reintegrating the Mexican international in next season’s plan and the centre-forward, who declined offers from Switzerland back in January, needs to move on and resurrect his career somewhere he built enough reputation once upon a time.
