Liverpool, under Jurgen Klopp, have shown significant progress in recent years and managed to grab a place in the prestigious Champions League final ahead of many European heavyweights. Although their dream run ended in a heartbreak following a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid, the Merseysiders showcased that they are not far away from reconquering glory after years of misfortune.
The Reds, however, still need to sort a few things out in order to challenge for some major silverware in the upcoming campaign. Hence, their transfer dealings during this window will indeed be crucial for them to become achievers from believers.
Their goalkeeper conundrum has been a much-discussed matter in recent years and those howlers from ‘number 1’ Loris Karius versus Los Blancos in Kiev have refuelled the transfer talks once again. Liverpool were closely monitoring the Selecao star Alisson Becker of AS Roma but the high asking fee has cooled down the talks and there is little hope of a change of heart at Anfield even after the completion of the ongoing football festival in Russia. Real Madrid and Chelsea have also joined the race, therefore, the Reds might now have to switch their sights elsewhere to find out a suitable resource in goal.
Jasper Cillessen of Barcelona, meanwhile, is reportedly considering a move out for the lack of first-team minutes as he spent the last two seasons as Marc-André ter Stegen’s deputy. The 29-year-old Dutch international made only 21 appearances for the Catalans since replacing Claudio Bravo a couple of years back but is held in high regard for his impressive displays despite limited opportunities between the sticks.
The former Ajax keeper joined the Spanish champions for €13m (plus another €2 million in add-ons), signing a five-year deal that includes a €60m buyout clause. However, at the same time, the club is well aware of the Dutchman’s willingness and is ready to listen to offers to respect his decision. Barcelona, thus, have lowered their asking fee to €30m which is realistic as well as reasonable considering current circumstances and Liverpool, who are leaving no stone unturned, must grab the opportunity before others step in.
Barca are yet to receive any offer from the European heavyweights but they are waiting patiently for those who are currently on the lookout for a new man in goal and weighing up moves to resolve the quandary. The Reds already have Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum, two of Cillessen’s international teammates in their ranks who have been an integral part of Klopp’s Liverpool revolution.

The project at Anfield will excite the player and he could ensure resilience between the sticks en route to a potential title battle.
