It has been a busy start to the summer transfer window at the Emirates Stadium. Having already replaced Arsene Wenger with Unai Emery, Arsenal are now desperately looking to sign players who fit into the new manager’s system next season. They have already made a couple of signings after appointing the former PSG boss and do not seem done yet.
The Spaniard also needs to resolve the futures of quite a few players at the club at the moment and one player, who may yet quit the club is Jack Wilshere.
Having failed to make it into Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup, the 26-year old will be disappointed but will now look to resolve his contract situations at Arsenal quickly. He has less than a month left on his current deal with the Gunners and is not convinced of the offers he has been made by the club recently.
It is reported that Wilshere is happy to stay at Arsenal and sign a new contract but needs a few assurances before putting pen to paper. The story comes out from the Evening Standard, who claim that Wilshere was offered a deal with too many performance-based incentives for the player’s liking.
Wilshere seemingly wants a clearer picture of what Emery has in store for Arsenal next season. The former Europa League winner with Sevilla, Emery is looking for a complete midfield overhaul and has been linked with the likes of Marouane Fellaini and Jean Michael Seri while Yacine Adli, who is reportedly close to joining Arsenal, could also be an option in the first team.
Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey could well retain their places in the starting XI, leaving Wilshere with a lot of work to do, to break into the side next season. At 26, having already missed a World Cup, Wilshere will be desperate to prove himself, and though he found some consistency late last season, did not do enough to warrant a regular starting role at the Emirates.
He will be a free agent in a matter of days and it might be best for him to start afresh at a new club, as he will have no shortage of suitors this summer. His injury history will also be playing on Arsenal’s mind, as it would have done in Gareth Southgate’s mind, before excluding him from the World Cup squad.

So Arsenal are also better off investing in a player who will be a better fit for Emery’s system next season. The final decision will probably lie with the manager but parting ways now is probably for the best decision for the Arsenal man.
