Jason Holt’s days at Ibrox stadium seems to be numbered as he recently didn’t travel with the Rangers squad for pre-season training in Spain. According to reports, he is wanted by Fleetwood Town who are currently being managed by Holt’s former teammate Joey Barton. Barton seems keen to bring his former colleague to the League One outfit as he steps into the managerial role for the first time in his career.
Holt has been with the Teddy Bears since 2015 and has made 115 appearances for them over the course of three years. The central midfielder has managed 15 goals in his stint. Last season he was more or less a regular part of the Gers as he made 33 appearances in all competitions. However, he was often found wanting in his position and many are of the suggestion that he needed to do more to warrant a regular place in the side.
He can even play the more defensive role but he is better suited when playing further up the pitch. The Gers seems to have plenty of depth in that central midfield department and it is likely that they will part ways with the 25-year-old midfielder.
Holt didn’t travel with rest of the squad to Spain and it is expected that it was done so that he can have talks regarding a prospective move to Fleetwood Town.
However, according to reports, Steven Gerrard has said to the midfielder that he can join the training camp if the deal doesn’t go through. Gers are looking for a new beginning under the former talismanic Liverpool midfielder and it is expected that he will make some wholesale changes to the squad.
He has already made some crucial acquisitions in the transfer market. Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Scott Arfield, Jamie Murphy and Allan Mcgregor are the players who have already been signed by the Gers boss. For a midfielder, he has gone on to secure a loan move for Liverpool player Ovie Ejaria and he will certainly add more competition for places.
Leaving Holt from the training camp is a clear indication that he isn’t likely to be in his plans and the Gers are already preparing for life without him. The Scottish u-21 international has shown promise once in a while but he is yet to be an influencer in the middle of the park for his team and with Barton keen on bringing him in, it is likely that he will exit from Ibrox soon.
