Wolves have won the Championship on a canter this season and they will be looking to carry on the same form in the Premier League next term. Nuno Santo has certainly transformed this team into a formidable unit as they have been head and shoulders above everyone in the Championship.
Along with the manager, the new owners have also backed the club in the transfer market as they broke their all-time transfer record to rope in Ruben Neves from Portuguese giants Porto. Neves has been instrumental in the middle of the park for them and one can consider him as one of the players of the season. However, with such performances, he is sure to be linked with big Premier League clubs and even before the transfer window has opened, the rumours have started.
Neves has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Manchester United but in a recent interview he denied those rumours and said,”I came here to help the club and the club has helped me as well. I think we achieved all our goals, as an individual and as a team. It is normal as big clubs see our work, not just me but all the boys, but I am really happy here. I want to stay here and I want to enjoy the Premier League with this fantastic club.”
Those words will be music to the ears of Wolves’ fans as they would have been dreading to see their star man leave after just one season. Even at the EFL awards ceremony, the Portuguese midfielder claimed how happy he is at the club. He had said,””Honestly, I love to play here. I love the boys and I love the fans. I am really happy here.”
It is great to see a player coming out and clearing speculations regarding his future. Playing for big clubs and playing in elite competitions is certainly a dream for every football player but Neves realises that at Wolves, he will be their star man. Going to other big clubs, Neves might have to bide his time before he gets a regular chance in the first eleven. So for his overall development staying at West Midlands side is certainly the way to go.
