West Brom are having a sorry season as they are destined to go down in the Championship. They sacked their manager Alan Pardew last month and are currently playing under the caretaker manager David Moore. Moore has been impressive in the last few games as he has inspired his men and managed to eek out some positive results against top teams like Liverpool and Manchester United.
However, Moore might not be managing the Baggies on a permanent basis and he is expected to leave the position after their season ends. According to reports, West Brom are after Dean Smith, who is currently managing Brentford. He has been at the club since 2015 and has been lauded for the work which he has done at the club. They are currently out of the race for the playoffs as they are in the 9th spot. But to bring Brentford within the striking distance of a playoff spot, Smith deserves huge credit.
Another name, which is doing the round is that of former West Brom player Michael Appleton. Whoever is elected for the top job, their task will be cut out as West Brom will be looking to bounce straight back into the Premier League.
The Baggies can also lose out on some of their key players as well as they will be hoping to play for a club who are in the top division. The new manager will find it tough as it is never easy to go into a club who has just been relegated to the Championship, especially when they were expected to continue playing in the top division.
The table might show that Brentford are out of the top six, however, they have played some impressive and eye-catching football, which has a lot do with Dean Smith’s tactics and philosophy. West Brom has often been known as a scrappy team who just manage to eek out results usually scoring from set pieces and defending in numbers. By appointing Smith, they might be looking to change that image.

The success of the caretaker manager should also not be ignored as Moore has done well in a short period of time. According to reports, West Brom had approached Sam Allardyce earlier and will be looking to interview a host of other candidates as well. This will be a big decision for the club as their future hinges on it and Dean Smith has emerged as a prime candidate for the job.
