According to German media reports, Hannover 96 forward Niclas Füllkrug is on the transfer radar of several English clubs. The forward is a versatile player and can operate from the left or right wing as well depending on his team’s requirement. He has been in excellent form in the domestic league this season scoring 13 goals in the league. The 13 goals puts him 5th on the scoring charts behind Lewandowski, Petersen, Uth and Volland.
The forward has played 35 games in total this season scoring 15 goals and creating 3 more in all competitions. His statistics are extremely impressive considering the fact that the club he plays for stands at the 13th place in the league. He has now been linked with a move to England with a host of clubs, both from the first and the second tier, reportedly interested in him.
Of the multiple clubs seeking his signature, one is Watford. The Hornets are having a rather decent season this time in the league. They stand 13th on the table and with one match to go, they are assured of a place in next season’s campaign. Although the fans might be disappointed with a lower half finish after the start they had, they will be happy to have come out of the mid-season slump, which could have threatened their survival in the league.
Watford’s fast start to the season was down to the brilliance of their coach Marco Silva. The Portuguese boss was accurate with his transfer spendings bringing in the likes of Richarlison, who helped Watford to a fast start. The Brazilian was a highly sought after player in Europe and Watford just showed everyone what they missed out on.
However, as the season progressed, Richarlison’s form took a downward turn and Watford’s position in the table reflected the Brazilian’s poor form. Marco Silva did himself no favours by playing coy on the Everton manager issue and found himself out of a job within a few weeks.
His replacement Javi Gracia got Gerard Deulofeu on loan from Nou Camp and managed to restore the form of Richarlison to some extent. However, as the end of the season approaches, Richarlison has once again started disappointing with his performances and is proving to be an inconsistent performer.
Moreover, Deulofeu’s contract will expire this summer and the player will leave. This would mean that Watford will need another attacking player who can shoulder the mantle of scoring goals and this is where the transfer of Füllkrug could come in handy for Gracia and Watford.
