Tottenham Hotspur defender, Cameron Carter-Vickers, is currently contemplating his future with the North London outfit and whether he should start entertaining offers from other clubs. The 20-year-old was quoted, “Nobody knows what is going to happen next season but if there was an option to come back here it is definitely something I would consider.”
“I would be open to offers, but it’s not really going to be my decision, it will be up to the gaffer at Tottenham to decide what’s next for me. I will be going back there in pre-season, see what his thoughts are and go from there.”
These are obviously concerning statements for Mauricio Pochettino and for the Spurs’ ownership. The Argentine manager regards the player highly and even mentioned about the youngster’s ability to one day become the best defender in England. Those praises alone will give you a sense of how valuable Carter-Vickers to the North London outfit.
This definitely begs the question as to why there is still a state of confusion over the player’s future with the club? He certainly has proven his worth during his two loan spells with Sheffield United and Ipswich Town this season. The 34 appearances in the EFL Championship are not too shabby for such a young player but Pochettino has only featured him in cup competitions.
At the time, it was understandable since Tottenham had just signed Davinson Sanchez from Ajax and already had Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier in the squad. But Alderweireld’s future with the club is also up in the clouds and the Belgian international could be on his way out of White Hart Lane, next summer.
This could potentially open up a major role for Carter-Vickers who has notched up one goal this season and grabbed two assists. The 2-time United States international has shown signs of future stardom with abilities well beyond his years.
Standing at 6 feet 1 inches, Carter-Vickers is physically imposing and equally agile on the ball. He is the ideal modern day centre-back who can give pacey strikers a run for their money.
Pochettino knows about the players he will have to assemble in order to make a successful run at the league title next season and the 20-year-old could fit perfectly into his plans. While the starting lineup will feature Sanchez and Vertonghen, Carter-Vickers could fill in as a rotational option.

He has been properly vetted in the Argentine’s system and in England’s top-flight standards. Easing him into the role will be the best move, rather than selling him or sending him away on loan.
