According to latest reports, Bristol City have found a replacement for Joe Bryan who could be on his way out of the club in the summer. They are in contention to bringing in Sam McQueen from Southampton. McQueen made just seven appearances in the Premier League as the Saints somehow managed to survive relegation and the 23-year-old could be an ideal replacement for Bryan.
Bryan was impressive down the left for Lee Johnson’s side the last term. However, Bristol City’s season ended on a disappointing note as they finished 12th. Joe Bryan was a regular feature for them down the left as he made 48 appearances in all competitions and provided seven goals and three assists and that is certainly a good haul for a left back.
Bryan has been linked with a move to Burnley who are looking to strengthen their squad after they qualified for Europa League. The deal is said to be worth £6m and Lee Johnson will certainly use some of that money to replace his outgoing defender.
McQueen’s preferred position is down the left side of midfield but he can play at the back as well. We often see in today’s day and age, a fullback being an attacking option for his team and McQueen certainly has those abilities. It will be interesting to see whether he will be able to cope up defensively in the Championship.
McQueen has gone on to represent England at the u21 level and that prompted Southampton to sign him in 2016. However, he hasn’t been able to get a regular run with the Saints and has often played and trained with their reserve squads. He will be keen on moving to a new club where he will be able to showcase his abilities to the fullest.

However, he might be close to first team action at the St.Mary’s as he has been impressive with the u23 squad where he has netted 6 goals in eight games. Southampton were able to save their skin by finishing on the seventeenth spot and they will be looking to rebuild their squad to make sure they don’t have another relegation scare like that.
Only time will tell whether McQueen will be in Mark Hughes’ plan for the future. If he is not, then we can very likely see him ply his trade at Bristol City in the next season.
