Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves has revealed that he has no intention of leaving the West Midlands club this summer. According to recent reports, the Portuguese international has disclosed that he wants to stay at the Molineaux Stadium amidst speculation linking him with a switch to Liverpool.
Neves has enjoyed a rich vein of form in recent weeks and he has put in a number of match-winning displays for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side during the course of this campaign. The Portuguese midfield enforcer is one of the main reasons why Wolves have been able to secure a promotion back to the Premier League after winning the Skybet Championship last month. Neves has made 42 appearances for Wolves this season, scoring 6 goals and grabbing one assist in all competitions.
In a recent interview, Neves addressed his future and was quoted to have said, “I came here to help the club and the club has helped me as well.
“I think we achieved all our goals, as an individual and as a team.
“It is normal as big clubs see our work, not just me but all the boys, but I am really happy here.
“I want to stay here and I want to enjoy the Premier League with this fantastic club.”
This recent development will be a big blow to the Reds’ chances of landing the player in the summer. With Neves set to stay with the Wolves beyond this season, let’s take a look at three potential replacements that Jurgen Klopp could consider in the off-season.
Marco Verratti
The French midfielder has been a solid presence for Paris Saint-Germain over the past few campaigns and has regularly featured for the French side this term. He has made 38 appearances for PSG this season, scoring 2 goals and making 7 assists across all competitions.
Although the 25-year-old midfield enforcer’s reputation has been built on his defensive capabilities yet he also has a knack for scoring and creating goals which makes him a perfect fit for the Reds. Verratti will be an ideal asset under Jurgen Klopp if he can convince the PSG star to make a move to Anfield in the near future.
Arturo Vidal
The Chilean midfield enforcer has been in sensational form for Bayern Munich over the last few years. However, the 30-year-old has been plagued with injuries in recent times which has seen him feature in just 35 matches for the Bundesliga giants this season, scoring 6 goals while also providing 2 assists in all competitions. He is exactly the kind of player who can thrive under Klopp at the heart of the Liverpool midfield if the Reds decided to opt for his services in the summer.
Saúl Ñíguez
The Atletico Madrid midfielder has enjoyed an outstanding campaign so far and has put in some impressive performances for the La Liga giants this season. The 23-year-old midfielder has played in 53 matches for the Madrid-based side and has found the back of the net 6 times while providing 5 assists in all competitions. At 23, he still has his peak years ahead of him which Jurgen Klopp’s team could look to make use of in the coming years.
