Rangers FC has already confirmed Steven Gerrard as their new manager and it seems that the Liverpool legend has already made up his mind regarding his first signing. The 38-year-old is keen on bringing his old teammate, Martin Skrtel to the Ibrox Stadium next summer in order to rack up the Gers defensive strengths.
Skrtel’s association with Liverpool was long and prosperous over the 8 year period between 2008 and 2016. The Slovakian international quit the Anfield-based outfit on a £5m transfer move to Fenerbahce after the 2015/16 season.
In that very season, he completed his 300th game for the Reds and went onto make total 320 appearances. He still remains one of the longest-serving players at the club and one of the most loved by the fans.
Skrtel is the very definition of grit and unflinching determination. He commanded the Liverpool backline with great dexterity for years and proved to be a worthwhile investment. He also could not be competed with for the starting place in the Slovakia national squad. The veteran has been capped 97 times and has 6 international goals registered to his name.
Skrtel is not only still capable of manning the Rangers backline, he is very much the type of player they need at the moment. The Light Blues have been exposed in recent weeks by their bitter rivals and are in desperate need of summer reinforcements.
The fans were outraged to see their steady rise to the top of the league get washed aside by a 5-0 thrashing from Celtic last weekend. Graeme Murty’s tactics do not have a place at the Ibrox any longer as he too was done away with following the humiliation at Parkhead.
Brendan Rodgers’ men just kept extending their dominance over the Gers by producing a better result every time they matched up. At first, it was the 2-3 loss at Ibrox. It got followed up by another dismantling by 4 goals to nil at the Scottish Cup Semi-Finals.
The weekend loss was the last straw and quite deservedly so. How far they will progress at the hands of a former England captain remains to be seen but for the time being the fans remain hopeful.

Making significant changes like this will go a long way in assuring them of the club’s future’s ambitions. Skrtel will be the right answer to Bruno Alves’ injury problems. He could also fill in as the regular starter if Norwich City disagrees to a permanent switch for Russell Martin in the summer.
