It is being reported by the media that James Collins, formerly of West Ham United, is no longer a player of interest to Rangers FC. The defender was set free by the Hammers after six years of service and is now a free agent for teams to make a swoop.
At Rangers, the players are coming off a season that was rather average for them. Their primary challengers Celtic won the domestic treble yet again leaving the Gers empty-handed. The Scottish outfit was further humiliated with double losses by margins of 4-0 and 5-0 to Celtic which showed the difference in class between the two sides.
The players were involved in personal situations and team bust-ups and hence the board decided to move on from their temporary manager Graeme Murty and turned to the rather inexperienced Steven Gerrard.
The former England international is in charge of a senior team for the first time and reportedly wants to shuffle things around in the squad. It is believed that Gerrard and his team are desperate to sign Brighton And Hove Albion defender Connor Goldson.
They have reportedly approached the Seagulls thrice and Brighton has turned them down on two occasions. It is, however, believed that Gerrard is unwilling to give up and will remain focused on getting him in.
The player remains their number one priority, so much so that another player who was considered previously has now been removed from the shortlist at Rangers. James Collins, formerly of West Ham United was linked with a move but it now appears that Gerrard and his team are no longer interested in signing him.
He was supposedly removed as a short-term replacement is not what is required by Gerrard at the current moment. The player is 34 years old and has loads of experience under his belt but his age might be the one thing that will go against him.
He is a typical central defender with lots of physicality to his game. The Welshman has a strong presence in the box and is good in the air as well. He does not shy away from a tackle and the player was known for his rough game.

He has slowed down with age but has enough experience to cover up for his lack of pace. At Rangers, he will definitely be able to fill the shoes in defence of playing at centre back in the relatively easier Scottish league and hence Gerrard should reconsider his stance on signing Collins, especially now that he is available for free.
