The new manager of Rangers FC, Steven Gerrard has reportedly contacted soon-to-be free agent, Wes Hoolahan, to come and play for his team next season. The 35-year-old has run out of his contract with Norwich City and the Light Blues could get him for absolutely nothing this summer.
Gerrard’s arduous job of bringing top-tier talents to the Scottish Premiership is already underway. The Ibrox side did not hire him to face a repeat of their current season disappointments and Gerrard is well aware of that. The Liverpool legend has been linked with quite a few veteran players that he has previously played with, against or interacted with during his footballing days in the Premier League.
Hoolahan quite deservedly has a warm place on that list mostly due to the impressive work he has done for the Canaries over the years. The 35-year-old is one of the best technical players to have come out of Ireland and is still capable of producing the goods.
He has filled in from the benches on a number of occasions this season to drive the team’s offence. He netted the ball twice and assisted a further 4 times in his 34 total appearances for Norwich, this campaign.
James Maddison might have stolen his spot in the starting XI but Hoolahan has proven countless times that he has still got it. Never really dependent on a burst of pace to get past defenders, the veteran still maintains a confident touch on the ball. His eye for the right pass is not going anywhere anytime soon and neither is his inch-perfect balls towards his teammates.
His legs have not given out yet and the Scottish Premiership will be more than an ideal place to end his illustrious career. Hoolahan has been capped 43 times for the Republic of Ireland national team while registering 3 goals to his name.
He has appeared in over 350 games for Norwich during his 10-year association with the club. A legend whose name will forever be cherished in the Norfolk homes.
Optimally the player might choose to return home to Dublin to play out the remainder of his playing career but this is Gerrard who is courting him. Rangers are on a massive project of overcoming the Celtic dominance in the Scottish top-flight and Hoolahan can potentially be a key part of that process.

Maybe he should take a serious look at the former England captain’s words as it could prove to be a highly lucrative relationship in the coming season.
