Rangers are plotting a loan move for Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke this summer. According to recent reports, the newly appointed Gers boss Steven Gerrard already has a list of transfer targets which includes Solanke’s name ahead of the summer transfer period. Following his appointment as the new manager at the Ibrox Stadium, Gerrard revealed that he is confident and was quoted to have said, “I have confidence in my ability.
“I have weighed the gamble up and the risk and I understand other people thinking it is because it is my first job in management, but I have confidence in myself that I can deliver for these supporters.
Some sources are now claiming that the English youngster will be one of his first targets in the off-season. Solanke has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at the Merseyside club during the course of this season. The Basingstoke-born centre-forward has featured in 24 matches for the Reds this term but is yet to register a goal so far.
However, the Liverpool wonderkid has one Premier League assist to his name and has also caught the eye while playing for the Reds youth teams.
Solanke has also represented his country, England, at every youth category from the Under-16 level onwards and is considered by many as one of the most promising young talents in the English top-flight. The 20-year-old has mostly been subject to appearances from the bench under Jurgen Klopp so far and could be looking for a temporary switch away from Anfield in order to get some much needed first-team opportunities next season.
The Teddy Bears have a tally of 68 points after 36 league games and are currently sitting in the 3rd spot in the Scottish Premiership standings. With the appointment of Steven Gerrard, the Gers could be willing to make some bold decisions in the upcoming transfer period in order to close the gap with Celtic next year.
The potential acquisition of Solanke will undoubtedly bolster Gerrard’s attacking options ahead of the new season. Rangers have the likes of Jason Cummings, Alfredo Morelos, Jamie Murphy, Eduardo Herrera, Joe Dodoo and Michael O’Halloran vying for a place in the Teddy Bears’ first-team. The addition of Solanke will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within Gerrard’s squad.

The English striker is in need of regular game time which might help him break into Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven in the coming years. Solanke will a massive coup for the Gerrard if he can pull it off this summer. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Solanke and whether he ends up a making a loan switch to the Ibrox Stadium in the summer.
However, from Rangers’ point of view, they need to concentrate on their midfield and defensive areas than the forward line. They already have an able striker in the form of Alfredo Morelos, who has been prolific for them throughout the current season and is expected to do the same in the future as well. So Gerrard will be better off signing adding some top class defenders and midfielders to his side and beef it up.
