It is never easy for a first-time manager to get it right in football. Every big name including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Antonio Conte have had to go through the hardships and the rough phases before they became serial winners in football. A manager must battle hard and constantly throughout his career and live for those few moments of glory.
They are criticized and humiliated in public by the media and the pundits. Hence, it can be termed as the most volatile job in football and something that is certainly bound to go wrong more often than not. Hence it was a little surprising when Steven Gerrard took over at Rangers FC as their boss. The former England international has never managed a senior side. He has only been in charge of the Liverpool youth team and that too for not very long. He is now set to start his reign from next season at Rangers and he has already started recruiting players.
Many will be sceptical of the changes Gerrard will make and many more will doubt Gerrard’s lack of experience as he has never managed a senior team before. Taking over a club the size of Rangers is no mean feat and Gerrard must be vigilant at all times. He will certainly have doubters who will be itching to put him down.
However, for now, it seems that the Gerrard effect could work in their favour. Rangers are interested in signing Connor Goldson of Brighton and Hove this summer. It was reported that the Gers had put in a £1.5million bid last week but the offer was rejected by the Seagulls. Their second offer for him was also rejected but it now appears that they can come back with a third offer on the table.
Instead of giving up on the player, it now seems that Rangers are renewing their interest and are set to come back with another improved bid. Goldson is a young, talented centre-back but has limited playing time at Brighton and Hove Albion.

He is picked behind Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy who are the established centre-backs; something he cannot afford to do at this point in his career. The signing of a new centre-back in the form of Leon Balogun by Brighton has further jeopardised his chances to make it into the first eleven and a move away from the AMEX looks to be the best option for the defender right now with Rangers being his next destination.
