Recent reports claim that Rangers FC have taken a distinct interest in Brighton And Hove Albion defender, Connor Goldson. Steven Gerrard plans on bringing the 25-year-old to Ibrox in order to solidify the vulnerable backline.
Goldson has hardly received any playing time for the Seagulls this season due to the cemented starting berths of Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk. He has long been a rotational option with just 11 appearances, which all could change if the Gers pick him up this summer.
Goldson had previously undergone a daunting heart surgery to fix an aortic swelling issue. The former Shrewsbury Town defender did make a miraculous recovery last December in the 1-0 Premier League win over Watford.
Goldson signed with Albion in the summer of 2015 on a 4-year deal and has totalled over 40 appearances for the side. He has been subjected to some games with the U23 side this campaign, all part of the rehabilitation process.
The Wolverhampton-born defender spent his primary years with Shrewsbury Town. It was at the New Meadow where he impressed the Brighton scouts after making 120 senior team appearances and scoring 8 in the process. Goldson was awarded his first professional mid-way through his scholarship program with the Shrews.
He did spend a season out on loan to Cheltenham Town, where he made a measly 4 league appearances. The 25-year-old has been solid whenever called upon although not exactly better than Duffy or Dunk.
He does not have many competitors in the Brighton lineup and yet he has had trouble breaking into the first team, mostly due to his recent health concerns. The Light Blues could fix all that with a simple transfer move.
However, the real question lies in whether Chris Hughton will agree to the move and whether the player himself will sacrifice Premier League football for the Scottish Premiership. The 59-year-old just signed a new contract at the Amex Stadium and will be willing to bolster the squad rather than losing any of his current players.
Rangers want to do the same, in order to upstage their bitter rivals, Celtic, to the league title next campaign. Gerrard might have to put out all the stops to get Goldson, who, in Brighton’s books is the best backup for their starting centre-backs.
The Gers are set to lose Russell Martin to Norwich City on the extinction of his loan-deal and Bruno Alves’ future has been speculated upon throughout the 2017/18 season.

Signing a replacement is an urgent affair and Goldson could be key in their future plans.
