Rangers forward, Eduardo Herrera has reportedly earned some favourable calls from Mexican outfit, Chivas. The 29-year-old has found life to be hard at the Ibrox, scoring just twice in his 24 appearances last season and Steven Gerrard might just be willing enough to show him the exit door.
In the modern footballing world, there is no space for unwanted personnel, especially the ones who are taking a significant amount of wage bills and are only delivering peanuts. The former England captain and Liverpool player is probably trying to prove this statement right and has brought around a complete dynamic shift with the Gers squad right upon his appointment.
He has been tasked with returning the club to title-winning status and the 37-year-old has been acting swiftly of late. Offloading Herrera will allow him more financial breathing room. Rangers are in desperate need of significant restrengthening but not necessarily can match the spending capabilities of their bitter rivals, Celtic.
In order to receive maximum benefit, Gerrard will have to work intelligently with the limited resources he has at hand. Signing a player like Scott Arfield was a brilliant first move by him, which was enough to ensure the fans of his high ambitions at the club.
However, should the Gers fans be this quick to do away with Herrera? The veteran forward was signed by Pedro Caixinha last summer for £1.5m as a part of the Portuguese’s supposed master strategy.
The move ended up not working as evident from his debut campaign. Instead of leading the frontline on a regular basis, Herrera has fallen behind a younger and less experienced Alfredo Morelos.
He could not manage more than the occasional substitute appearances due to his complete incompetence to find the back of the net. Not only has he failed to fire on all cylinders, the Mexican somehow does not have the pace or the stamina to make it in the Scottish top-flight.
His prior experience in the European stage, which is none, is justifiable of such harsh statements. Herrera played his entire career within the boundaries of Mexico before making the switch to Scotland.
He does not have the pedigree to make a difference for Rangers and should be sold off as soon as possible. Ryan Hardie has a better chance of making it into the rotation after his impressive 9-goal season with Livingston FC.
Gerrard could also bring in one of the young forwards from Liverpool, plenty of whom have been linked with the Scottish outfit in recent weeks.
