Newcastle United are interested in acquiring the services of West Brom defender Craig Dawson. The Baggies fate is sealed now and they will be playing in the second division next season. As a result, they can lose out on some of their key players in the upcoming transfer window.
Dawson has been a stalwart for the Baggies as he has been a part of the club since 2010. But now with West Brom going down, he could be playing his last game for the Baggies this weekend as he will certainly have ambitions of playing in the English top flight. Several other clubs are also looking to sign the Englishman and Newcastle United can be a good destination for him.
The Magpies have enjoyed a good season as they were expected to be in a relegation scrap but their manager Rafael Benitez has taken them to safety with relative ease. However, the Spanish tactician will know that he will need to add reinforcements to his squad so that there are no relegation scares next season as well. According to reports, they might have to shell out £15m for Craig Dawson.
Dawson is a versatile defender and can play in the role of right back and centre back. He is defensively solid and is good in the air. He has helped the Baggies with some crucial goals over the years through set pieces. Dawson has never played for England but has been part of the Great Britain squad for the 2012 Olympics. Maybe if he would have played for some Premier League heavyweights, he would have got a chance to represent the nation.
Benitez has indicated that they will need to be active in the transfer market if they are going to finish somewhere in the top half of the table next season. The Spanish mastermind has done a terrific job with limited financial resources but this summer could be the time when he might break the bank to get some key players. Benitez’s team is known for defensive organisation and that is how the Magpies have grinded results this term and Dawson will certainly be a great fit for him.

The centre-back pairing of Jamaal Lascelles and Florian Lejeune have done decently well but the addition of the Baggies man will certainly improve their options and will create competition for places. Dawson can fill in the role of a right back as well and Benitez should certainly make a move for him in the transfer market.
