Ryan Bertrand has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs in the past and it seems that Newcastle United have also joined the bandwagon to sign him in. Southampton are likely to lose their man especially if they drop down to the second division. They are currently in the 18th spot and are one point off the safety zone. Their season can hinge on the crucial encounter against fellow relegation-threatened team Swansea City.
Newcastle United have made a late charge in the Premier League as they are currently sitting in the top half of the table. Benitez has done extremely well with limited financial resources to bring this team this far. The team has become disciplined and defensively very organised as they have been tough to score against. The Magpies will be in need of some players as they wouldn’t want a relegation scare and will like to build on to become a top half side for years to come. With Benitez in charge, they can certainly achieve that. However, he will need some sort of financial backing from the owners in achieving their goal.
Bertrand has been linked with some top clubs and it will be interesting to see whether Newcastle will be able to match the bids of those clubs. Manchester United and Tottenham are prime candidates in bringing the Saints player at their club and if those two decide to have their man, Newcastle will certainly not stand a chance to outbid them.
One can understand why the Englishman is in so much demand as Bertrand can be termed as one of the complete fullbacks of the Premier League. He is equally good at attacking and defending and can do everything which a manager would need from a modern day fullback.
He will certainly be a sure shot starter at Newcastle if he joins them but one would expect Bertrand to fit in most of the Premier League’s first 11. The move can come down to the player’s ambition and if that comes into the picture, he will certainly move to a team where he will be playing European football.

Benitez hasn’t got much of a help from the owners and it looks highly unlikely that they can lure Bertrand in with no European Football to offer and they might have to look somewhere else for reinforcement.
