Manchester United are lining up a move for Atletico Madrid defender Sime Vrsaljko this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are hoping to secure the signature of the Croatian right-back when the transfer window opens in the summer.
The 26-year-old has put in some impressive performances for the La Liga side during the course of this campaign which has not gone unnoticed. Some sources are now claiming that the Croatian international is high on Jose Mourinho’s wishlist in the summer transfer period. Vrasaljko has been linked with other English clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester City in the past but he is still plying his trade in the Spanish capital.
However, it is believed that Diego Simeone’s side could be willing to sell their prized asset in order to strengthen some of the other areas of their squad. The new Europa League champions are set to demand a fee in the region of £30m for the former Sassuolo defender after signing him for a mere fee of £14.5m in the summer of 2016.
The Reds of Manchester has completed their league season with an impressive tally of 81 points after playing 38 matches in the top tier of English football. However, they still need to bring in some new players who can strengthen their squad and help them challenge Manchester City for the league title in the next campaign.
The addition of Vrsaljko will undoubtedly bolster Mourinho’s defensive options ahead of the new season. United have an array of full-backs such as Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind competing for the right-back position in Mourinho’s first-team. However, none of the players have put in a consistent run of performances this season which will be a cause for concern. The potential acquisition of Vrsaljko will definitely strengthen the Red Devils backline and add more competition for places within the United squad.
