Manchester United are hoping to secure the services of SC Freiburg centre-back Caglar Söyüncü this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are keen on sealing a move for the Turkish youngster when the transfer window opens in the summer. The 21-year-old defender can be considered as one of the hottest young talents in the German top-flight and has caught the eye with a number of scintillating displays during the course of this campaign.
However, Jose Mourinho’s side are not the only ones eying a move for the Turkish centre-back with Manchester City also keeping tabs on his situation at the Bundesliga club. United could also be on the lookout for some more defensive options during this summer transfer period and Söyüncü fits the bill perfectly.
The 21-year-old defensive ace has made 29 appearances for SC Freiburg this season, finding the back of the net once so far across all competitions. His outstanding contributions could help his team avoid relegation from the Bundesliga at the end of this current season.
However, if the club does end up getting relegated then it could only boost United’s chances of landing the player on a cut-price deal in the off-season.
The Reds of Manchester are currently cruising in the English top-flight and have sealed a runners-up place in the league rankings this season. Jose Mourinho’s team have managed to secure a healthy tally of 77 points with just two games left to play in this campaign.
The addition of Söyüncü will undoubtedly bolster Mourinho’s defensive options ahead of the new campaign. United have the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailey and Marcos Rojo vying for the centre-back positions in Mourinho’s first team. The potential acquisition of Söyüncü will definitely improve their squad significantly and add more competition for places within the United team.
