Yes folks, you heard it right. Manchester United have realized the need to sign a goalkeeper.
What do you do when you already have the best custodian in place standing in between the two sticks of your goal? You certainly do not do a Manchester United and enter the market to buy another keeper. Even if you do, it is highly unlikely that any player with a serious ambition of prolonging his career will join in.
Manchester United have a certain David De Gea in goal. The Spanish tactician has been flying left, right and centre to keep the opposition out. He has single-handedly, literally, won them matches. The player is considered to be the best in the world now and United have their stars and Sir Alex Ferguson to thank for getting the gift of De Gea.
With the Spanish custodian in this amazing run of form for the last few years, it is highly irrelevant for United to look for a new keeper in the market, especially when they have other areas of the pitch they need to address. Any player who comes in will automatically be given the warm-up bib and asked to warm the bench as De Gea will definitely continue to star as long as he stays at United.
Granted, maybe Mourinho wants a backup. However, the Portuguese already has a steady number two in Sergi Romero. The Argentine has been decent when called upon. Reports here are claiming that Romero could be on his way out but even then Mourinho has Sam Johnstone returning from his loan spell at Aston Villa as a backup; another excellent and young option to consider.
As for United’s new target, Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon, he is 35 years old and does not have a long future ahead of him. Maybe that is why he wishes to join a side like United where he can get to win silverware. However, he already does that at Celtic!
He is after all a part of the back to back treble winning outfit with regular participation in the UEFA Champions League. He is a starter for Brendan Rodgers’ side and gets weekly first-team action, something he won’t, for sure, get at United.

Let us hope that Gordon remembers the rule of the Premier League, which states that a player must make at least 10 appearances to earn a medal. In case United do win the league, Gordon is unlikely to play 10 of the 38 games with De Gea around and hence will be left without a medal despite his new team winning the league.
So it might not be the best option for him to consider a move out of the Parkhead, however alluring it might be. He has been a winner at Celtic and would not likely be bothered with that status for the rest of his career, as one can guess.
