Manchester United are keeping tabs on the progress of Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish ahead of a potential move this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are lining up a move for the English midfielder and could table a bid for him during this summer transfer period.
The Birmingham-born talent has put in a number of eye-catching displays during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed. He has mostly been deployed as a box to box midfielder by Villa manager Steve Bruce and now, some sources are claiming that United wants to bring him to Old Trafford to bolster their midfield options ahead of the new season.
Grealish suffered the agony of being defeated in the Championship play-off final when Villa were narrowly beaten by Fulham with a 1-0 scoreline. The Reds of Manchester wants to sign a midfielder for the long-term and Grealish fits the bill perfectly. His current contract with Villa is set to expire in the summer of 2020 which indicates that the West Midlands outfit will be under no pressure to sell.
The 22-year-old midfielder had featured in 34 matches for the Villans last season, scoring 3 goals while grabbing 8 assists in all competitions. The Villa academy product is highly versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the midfield. He primarily plays as a central midfielder but can also feature on either flank which makes him a perfect fit for the Red Devils.
Jose Mourinho’s side did not manage to bag any trophies last season so the club would need to bring in some talented players in the ongoing window in order to close the gap to Manchester City next term.
The addition of Grealish will undoubtedly bolster their midfield options ahead of the new campaign. United have the likes of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and Marouane Fellaini vying for a place at the centre of the park in Mourinho’s starting XI. The potential acquisition of Grealish will definitely improve their team and add more competition for places within Mourinho’s squad.
