Manchester City are lining up a big-money move for Chelsea star Eden Hazard this summer. According to recent reports, the Citizens are ready to make a surprise offer for the Belgian international during this summer transfer period. It is believed that the Blues wide man is Pep Guardiola’s top transfer target for this window and the Spanish manager is confident about his chances of landing the player.
However, City needs to break the British transfer record and make an offer in the region of £100m if they are serious about recruiting the Belgian attacker. Some sources are also claiming the Manchester outfit will have to offer a deal worth £300,000-a-week to convince Hazard to ply his trade at the Etihad Stadium next season.
The Belgian still has two years remaining on his current contract with Chelsea with the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are ready to clash heads with the Citizens in pursuit of Hazard’s signature this summer. He has put in a number of match-winning displays for the West London club during his time at Stamford Bridge over the past few years.
Hazard can be considered as one of the best players in European football. However, his refusal to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge indicates that a big move out of London could be on the horizon.
It is understood that Guardiola sees him as a long-term replacement for David Silva. The Spaniard is not planning to make wholesale changes to his City squad in this post-season and would rather focus on bringing a couple of world-class players in who can significantly boost his squad ahead of the new season.
The potential acquisition of Hazard will definitely bolster Guardiola’s attacking options at the Manchester club and help them maintain their dominance in domestic football while also giving them an edge in European competitions. Manchester City have a whole host of attacking talents such as Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva and David Silva competing for a starting berth in Guardiola’s starting XI. The addition of Hazard will improve his team significantly and add more competition for places within the City squad.

The Belgian international has made 51 appearances for Chelsea last season, scoring 16 goals while creating 13 assists in all competitions. At 27, Hazard still has his peak years ahead of him which the Citizens could look to utilise in the years to come. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Hazard and whether he ends up making a switch to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
