Manchester City seems to be keen on completing their transfer business well in advance and are looking to swoop up on Napoli’s defensive midfielder, Jorginho. The Italian played a crucial part in Napoli’s push towards the Serie A title but in the end, Juventus prevailed and went on to win the domestic league.
According to reports, Pep Guardiola wants to include him in his preseason camp and International Champions Cup so that the player gets used to his tactics and coaching style. Last year also, Guardiola made some crucial signings in the earlier part of the transfer window as he brought in the likes of Ederson and Bernardo Silva.
Even after winning a double where they secured the domestic title with a record number of points, it is expected that the Citizens are going to strengthen their squad further. Manchester City were head and shoulders above everyone in Premier League and led the title race from the beginning of the season.
Their interest in Jorginho shows that they are not going to slow down and will keep on building their legacy under their revolutionary Spanish manager.
The midfielder is not going to be busy with the World Cup as the Italians missed the plane to Russia and Guardiola will certainly want him to join the squad as soon as possible in preparation for the next season.
Jorginho is known for his technical ability and work rate and can be deployed even in a central midfield role as well. However, he thrives in the defensive midfield position as he is good at reading games and can influence his team’s move from that position. He is not one of those hard-tackling defensive midfielders but instead, he is in the mould of a ‘deep-lying playmaker’.
He has an eye for a good pass and always wants the ball at his feet. The 26-year-old managed 4 goals and 4 assists this term for Napoli but more than that, he controlled the tempo of the game for his side.

A player like him will certainly suit Pep Guardiola’s style as he even wants his defensive options to provide creative output. Fernandinho has been fantastic for them in that role this season but the Brazilian is 33 and won’t be at the top of his game in a few year’s time. Apart from him, City doesn’t have an out and out defensive midfielder and getting one in the transfer market will certainly be one of the top most priority for Pep Guardiola.
