Manchester City are reportedly chasing Croatian midfielder Lovro Majer. The 20-year-old has impressed in his time at Croatia and it is believed that City and Pep Guardiola are interested in bringing him in for £8m this summer from NK Lokomotiva.
The player has been a part of the senior squad for two seasons now and his performances in the Croatian league has caught the eye of some major powerhouses in Europe. It is being reported that Scottish giant Celtic are also interested in the midfield star and City will have to fight Brendan Rodger’s side in the market to bring him in.
The 20-year-old already has some international experience having been capped for the Croatia under-21s. He has not made the cut for the 2018 FIFA World Cup but is expected to be a part of the national team for their upcoming Euro Cup qualifiers.
The situation at Manchester City is now booming. Pep arrived at the Etihad two seasons back and the owners at City were expecting beautiful, winning football at the club. It took the Spanish tactician one season to master the league and the results were there to be seen this time around. Guardiola won the domestic double and broke several records on the way.
They have played some beautiful football and their attacking display has been nothing short of a picturesque beauty. The attackers were given full license to roam free in the final third with David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne linking up the play. This meant that the responsibility of defending the middle of the pitch fell on Fernandinho and the Brazilian enjoyed one of his best seasons ever.
He was fantastic off the ball and covered every blade of grass in the midfield; relentlessly harassing opponents to lose possession. His backup options Ilkay Gundogan was not up to the mark defensively and his second back up Yaya Toure has aged.
Toure is now leaving the club and City will need to replace their talismanic midfielder. This is what has brought their interest in Majer but the Citizens will need to comprehend that a 20-year-old is not the right back up at Etihad.

City are a European giant and Majer will not be able to fill such huge shoes at the club. He will most probably end up being loaned out and hence City must instead focus on finding any other suitable replacement.
