Liverpool are prepared to step up their chase to sign Olympique Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir this summer. According to recent reports, the Lyon skipper is high on the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp’s wish-list with the Merseyside club now ready to make a move for him during this summer transfer period.
It is understood that Klopp is on the lookout for a new creative midfielder following the departure of Phillipe Coutinho back in January and Fekir fits the bill perfectly. Some sources are now claiming that the Reds will step up their pursuit of the French international but only after their season-defining clash against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final at Kiev this weekend.
The 24-year-old had featured in 40 matches for Lyon last season, finding the back of the net 23 times while providing 7 assists across all competitions. Fekir’s dazzling performances for the French giants during the last campaign has helped him book a place in Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup which kicks off in Russia next month.
He is exactly the kind of talent who can make a difference at the Red half of Merseyside which is why Klopp should do everything in his power to seal a move for him ahead of the new season.
Jurgen Klopp’s team are being considered by many to be one of the most serious threats to Manchester City‘s title defence next season. A player of Fekir’s quality will definitely bolster their squad and help them close the gap to the Citizens in the coming years.
The Merseyside team has an array of attacking talents such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Georginio Wijnaldum competing for a starting berth at Anfield, with the impending arrival of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig this summer. The potential acquisition of Fekir will undoubtedly strengthen their squad significantly and add more competition for places within Klopp’s squad.
At 24, Fekir still has his best years ahead of him which the Reds could look to capitalise on, in the near future. The French international is also quite versatile and can operate in a number of different positions at the centre of the park. The Lyon captain primarily operates in the number 10 position but can also be deployed as a secondary striker or down the right wing which makes him an ideal fit for Klopp’s Liverpool.
Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of the French talent and whether the Reds are able to secure his services this summer.
