Liverpool are looking to make a move for AFC Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech this summer. According to recent reports, the Reds are planning to secure the signature of the Moroccan international during this summer transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
The Dutch Eredivisie midfielder is eager to make a move away from the Johan Cruijff Arena this summer in search of some fresh adventures. Some sources are now claiming that Jurgen Klopp’s side are interested in bringing him to Anfield in this post-season to bolster their midfield options for the upcoming season.
Ziyech has put in a number of mezmerising performances for the Dutch giants during the course of this recently concluded campaign which has not gone unnoticed. However, the Merseyside club are not the only ones looking to sign him and will face stiff competition from Everton and AS Roma in pursuit of the Morrocan ace’s signature. The 25-year-old has featured in 39 matches for Ajax this season, scoring 9 goals while creating 18 assists in all competitions.
In a recent interview, the Ajax midfield enforcer addressed his future and was quoted to have said, “From the January transfer window, I have been clear that it was my intention to leave Ajax in the summer,”
“I am ready to look further. But the situation has to be right at the next club. If that is not the case, I will stay.”
The Merseyside outfit are currently preparing for the UEFA Champions League final where they will clash heads versus Real Madrid at Kiev later this month. Jurgen Klopp’s team are being tipped by many to be one of the closest challengers to Manchester City for the league title next term. A player of Ziyech’s calibre will definitely be a big boost to their squad and might help them bridge the gap to the Citizens going into the new campaign.
The Reds of Merseyside have an array of midfield talents such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Georginio Wijnaldum competing for a place in Klopp’s starting-eleven, with the impending arrival of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig this summer. The potential acquisition of Ziyech will undoubtedly strengthen their squad significantly and add more competition for places within their team.
At 25, Ziyech still has his peak years ahead of him which the Reds could look to capitalise on, in the years to come. The Morrocan ace is also quite versatile and can play in a number of different positions at the centre of the park. Ziyech primarily operates in the number 10 position but can also be deployed as a holding midfielder or on the left flank which makes him a perfect fit for Klopp’s Reds.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the Morrocan attacker and whether he ends up sealing a switch to Anfield in search of more challenging adventures.
