Reports in England have confirmed that Liverpool star Sadio Mane wants Lyon star Nabil Fekir at Liverpool. The Ligue 1 star has been in excellent form this season and has starred for Lyon.
He has played 38 games for the French side this season and the 24-year-old has scored 22 goals and added 7 assists to his name. An attacking midfielder by nature, he is versatile enough to play on the right wing as well. The player is an extremely smart customer on the ball and his intelligence of playing with the ball has seen him play as a centre-forward as well.
It is now being reported that he may be on the move with the Reds ready to spend €70m on the playmaker. Former Reds boss Gerard Houllier, who acts as an advisor to Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas, is said to be the key man in making this transfer possible.
However, such reports could be premature with Aulas refusing to accept that a deal has been struck. This is what he said, “No contact with Liverpool today. I am surprised by this news. There is no agreement in Nabil’s contract that provides for a departure. Simply, when he signed professional, I told his agent – with whom we have excellent relations and who is someone very reasoned – that the day that Nabil would like to leave, as I did with Alexandre Lacazette, Corentin Tolisso or Karim (Benzema) he could come to see me.”
If Liverpool were to land Fekir, he would be an excellent addition to the Reds. Jurgen Klopp’s men have been excellent this season both in England and in Europe. Their entire team has performed way above the expected standard and the front three have been especially brilliant.
The trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have terrorized every defence in Europe but the problem for Klopp lies in the lack of strength in depth. The backup options at Anfield are Dominic Solanke, Danny Ings with Daniel Sturridge out on loan.
If Klopp’s men are to challenge on multiple fronts next season, they will definitely need more players. It is in this light that the signing of Fekir could prove to be an excellent signing. The player has the versatility to play anywhere across the front three and would be a perfect addition for the Reds at Anfield.
