Leicester City are interested in securing the services of Manchester City wide man Patrick Roberts this summer. According to recent reports, the Foxes are keen on making an offer for the English midfielder during this summer transfer period. It is believed that the Citizens value him in the region of £15m, which would be enough to prise him away from the Manchester club. However, the collapse of Riyad Mahrez’s proposed transfer to the Etihad Stadium in January had seen this deal fall through in the last window.
Some sources are now claiming that the Foxes could be ready to reignite their interest on the player if his asking price is lowered. The English youngster signed for the Citizens from Fulham in the summer of 2015 and went on to make three appearances for the Manchester outfit before being loaned out to Celtic with the hope that he can continue with his development.
Roberts has been a revelation for the Hoops over the past few years which has not gone unnoticed. He is exactly the kind of player who can flourish under the guidance of Claude Puel if given the opportunity to showcase his talents at the King Power Stadium. The 21-year-old had made 18 appearances for the Bhoys last season, scoring one goal and creating 5 assists in all competitions.
Claude Puel’s team managed to earn a strong 9th placed finish in the English top-flight last season. Although, they need to recruit cleverly in this summer transfer market so that Puel’s men can push for a European place in the upcoming campaign.
The potential acquisition of Roberts could prove to be a major coup for the East Midlands outfit if they can pull off such a deal and will undoubtedly bolster Puel’s attacking options going into the new season. Leicester City have wingers such as Marc Albrighton, Riyad Mahrez and Demarai Gray vying for a place in Puel’s starting XI. The English talent will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Foxes squad.
At 21, Roberts still has his peak years ahead of him which the East Midlands side could look to utilise in the coming years. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Roberts and whether he ends up making a switch to the King Power Stadium next season.
