The race to sign Union Berlin defender Kristian Pedersen will certainly intensify as Birmingham City seem to be interested in the Danish defender. He has been linked to Leeds United for quite some time now but nothing has materialised as of now. Birmingham City survived in the Championship by winning their penultimate game of the season and they will be looking for reinforcements in the transfer market.
It is being reported that Garry Monk is working on several deals to improve the Blues for next season. His side is in need of defensive cover as they conceded 68 goals in their entire campaign and the board will be hoping that they don’t have to face another relegation scare next term.
Pedersen has been a regular feature for his side at the back as he made 34 appearances in the previous term in Bundesliga II. He is traditionally a left back but can fill in the role of a centre back as well. He has gone on to represent Denmark at the u-21 level and many expect him to be a Danish international in the future. According to reports, the Blues have made a bid of around £2m for the 23-year-old defender. If the reports are true, then Birmingham might just pip over Leeds United to sign him.
According to reports in Germany, Leeds are leading the race to sign the impressive fullback. The Whites are in dire need of a left back as the likes of Laurens De Bock and others have failed to establish themselves in the side. As a result, Paul Heckingbottom had to promote u23 player Tom Pearce to the first team and the youngster did manage to show some potential in the latter stages of the League.
However, they cannot be solely dependent on Pearce and the signing of Pedersen will certainly add more strength and depth to the left back spot. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to adapt his game to English football.

The pressure is certainly on Paul Heckingbottom to deliver next season and there have been rumours of him being in danger of losing his job. If the Peacocks lose out on the signing of Pedersen, that will be a body blow for them as they have been monitoring the defender for quite some time now. With Birmingham City coming in, maybe now it is the time for the Whites to step on the gas and bring the player at Elland Road.
