Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom has promised to make some changes to prepare his team in a better way for the next season. Leeds have finished a dismal 13th in the Championship this season and one expected much more out of the former Barnsley manager. The Peacocks were in a semi-decent position around the Christmas period but have won just four games since the boxing day.
Heckingbottom has agreed to the fact that the team will need to make some major changes to have any chance of making the playoffs next season. He said, ”You want to make major surgery with the minimal amount of signings. If funds are unlimited you can do what you want but it’s never good to keep ripping everything apart. I want to make big changes to the dynamic of the squad, however many we have to sign.”
He further added,-”I want a better balance to the squad, a better balance in terms of having players who can affect the game when we’ve not got the ball and affect the game through physicality. We’ve got talent in there and good technicians but we need to get the balance of the squad right so we’re equipped for every game in the Championship.”
The season for the Peacocks ended on a good note as they saw off QPR in their final game. However, they will be looking for improvements in a number of positions for the next term and we look at three players Heckingbottom must go after in the upcoming transfer window.
David Meyler
The influential Hull City midfielder is set to leave the club after staying for near about five and a half years with them. He is still 28 and can provide a lot of stability in the middle of the park for the Whites. He should certainly be on the radar of Heckingbottom to bolster his current squad.
Patrick Bamford
The Peacocks have managed to score just 59 goals in their entire campaign and their current attacking outlet certainly needs improvement. The talented Patrick Bamford could solve their attacking woes as he has been having a good season with Middlesbrough.
However, he was not able to feature in all the matches due to the presence of Britt Assombalonga in the side and Heckingbottom can surely make a move for him to strengthen his attack.

Jack O’Connell
The English defender currently plays for Sheffield United and has featured regularly for them at the back this season. He will certainly be an upgrade over some of their current defenders present in the Leeds United squad and might turn out to be the perfect partner for Pontus Janssen in the backline.
