Rangers are reportedly interested in signing ace Everton attacker Wayne Rooney. The former Manchester United man moved to Goodison Park last season but has endured a difficult start to life this time around.
Rooney was an Everton kid who made his name at the club by the age of 18. He was snapped up by Sir Alex Ferguson and taken to Old Trafford where he became a club legend. He spent well over a decade at Manchester United, breaking several records including that of the club’s highest goal scorer.
He also won a numerous number of trophies while playing for them, both domestic and European. He has been an excellent servant for them playing in multiple positions like a centre-forward, playmaker and winger.
Last season, he moved to the Merseyside where he was reunited with his boyhood club, Everton. The Toffees were lavish spenders in the market last season owing to the spendthrift nature of their new owner Farhad Moshiri.
Rooney was supposed to play the role of the experienced head in a squad full of new players as they were expected to challenge for a place in the top six. However, the league turned out to be a disaster as Everton were found wanting. The team has struggled to put together a run and find themselves well short of a European spot.
Rooney’s return has not been able to inspire the team and he may now be on the move according to latest reports. “If Wayne’s time is up at Everton, there’s no reason why Rangers shouldn’t put their name forward,” Micky Gray told talkSPORT host Jim White on Tuesday.
“Steven is an attraction. He wants to get it right at Rangers and what a massive signing that would be. Wayne Rooney coming to Rangers – that would send out a message to the whole of the Scottish league.”
Although it is unlikely that Rooney would move to play his football in the Scottish league, one could possibly see it happening simply because of Gerrard. The Anfield legend was unveiled as the next Rangers boss last week and he is due to take over after the season gets over.

Gerrard is on good terms with Rooney from his England days and one might just see the Everton veteran move to Rangers at the request of his former international colleague.
