Chelsea appears to have made Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski their number one target this summer. The Blues are reportedly ready to offer an amount as large as £100m to get the Polish striker on board.
Lewandowski first came into the limelight under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund where he became a fearsome striker. His development continued as Bayern Munich poached him up and he helped the Bundesliga giants land several trophies.
Lewandowski met his agent last month and his agent has done little to diffuse the rumours as this is what he said: “I am glad that Robert decided to co-operate with me. I will do everything to work well in his name. He is a great footballer. He is the best striker in the world. Therefore, it is not surprising that I have signals about the interest of his person in all major clubs. Will Robert go to Real Madrid? We’ll see. Now it’s time for me to do my job.”
It now seems that besides Madrid, Chelsea could be a true destination for him. He is the star man at Bayern but may feel that his time at the German is club is over. He has won a lot of trophies with them but now might seek a new challenge.
If that is the case, Chelsea could actually be in the running. They are in the English league, an action-packed footballing competition that is watched and revered by the entire footballing community in the world. Moving to play in England has been a dream for many a star players and Chelsea could use this to their advantage to get Lewandowski.
The English giants failed to finish in the top four this time after winning the league last term. They were extremely poor and much of the reason for this was their failure to score goals upfront.
The boys from Stamford Bridge signed Alvaro Morata last season from Real Madrid but the Spaniard has failed to replace the talismanic Diego Costa. He has failed to turn up in a host of matches costing Chelsea crucial league points.

This might see Chelsea actually move closer to signing Lewandowski who can replace the inconsistency in front of goal and bring in some much needed ruthlessness upfront. He will also provide an outlet for Eden Hazard who has been craving for a better attacking partner this season.
