Reports have surfaced linking Burnley with Rangers FC right-back, James Tavernier along with a host of Premier League outfits. This, of course, comes as a surprise for many as the player has just signed a new contract with the Ibrox-based outfit. However, within the fast-paced realms of modern day football, no transfer can be ruled out completely, especially when the talks of Premier League football enters the conversation.
The Bradford-born defender has appeared in 137 games, scoring 25 times and furthering 39 assists. Tavernier has won the Scottish Championship title and the Petrofac Training Cup under Mark Warburton, right after his arrival from Wigan Athletic. The £200,000 acquisition has proved to be a top-pedigree talent who has helped bring the side back to title-contention abilities. The return on the Gers’ investment has been magnanimous and the backline is looking solid with Tavernier alongside the likes of Russell Martin, David Bates and Declan John.
Earlier interests from Sunderland and Reading were ruled out by the player himself as he was quoted,“I’m fully committed to Rangers. I’m still learning here and I’m still growing here. I’m still under contract for another 18 months so I’m really happy here. I came here to win trophies. Also, in all the Old Firm games I’ve played, I’ve only been on the winning side once so far (in the 2016 Scottish Cup semi-final). I want to win some more of them. I still have unfinished business as a Rangers player. It’s totally down to the club if they want to extend my contract. I’ll have to wait and see.”
These are the ideal qualities every fan looks for in players of their own club and the fact that it is coming from one of the best right-backs in the league makes it even better.
The player has expressed his wishes to win the Scottish Premiership title and to topple the dominant run of their bitter rivals, Celtic. However, the prospects of Burnley do seem promising at the moment.
The Clarets have upstaged Everton and Leicester City to the 7th spot of the points table and are still within touching distance of the last European qualification spot. Sean Dyche’s brilliant defensive structure has worked wonders this season and building on this success is the right way forward.

If they can afford to get the 26-year-old, by all means, Dyche should go all in.
