Bayern Munich have agreed on extending the contract of their Dutch winger Arjen Robben with the summer transfer window looming on the horizon. According to recent reports, the Bundesliga giants have successfully agreed on terms to extend the Dutch wide man’s contract for another year. This comes a week after they managed to extend Frank Ribery’s contract at the club for another season.
It is expected that the deal will be signed in the coming days which will keep the veteran forward at the Bavarian club until the summer of 2019. Robben is set to complete a decade with the German side after joining them from Real Madrid in the summer of 2009. The Dutch international has been a loyal servant to Bayern and has put in a number of match-winning performances for them during the course of this campaign. Some sources have also claimed that the 34-year-old was considering offers from other clubs before deciding to agree on a one-year extension with Jupp Heynckes’ side.
In a recent interview, Bayern’s director of sports Hasan Salihamidzic was quoted to have said, “We are delighted to extend with these deserving players,”
The Munich-based side have ended their season at the top of the Bundesliga standings with a total tally of 84 points after 34 league fixtures. The Bavarian team needs to bring in a few quality players in the upcoming summer transfer window if they want to do well in the Champions League next season.
However, retaining some of their top talents like Robben could go a long way in helping them win some European silverware next year. The Dutchman is exactly the kind of player who can help the newcomers around him and get the best out of the Bayern team next term. At 34, he still has a few years left in him to play at the top level which the Bayern could look to utilise in the next campaign.

Robben still boasts of an incredible pace while being a consistent goal-threat in the opposition half. He can be considered as one of the potent wingers in German football which is why the Bundesliga giants have kept him at the Allianz Arena for such a long time. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Robben and whether he can win some major trophies for the Munich-based side next term.
